Comments: The Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology Fellowship at the Medical University of South Carolina provides an incredibly rich academic experience that produces very well trained and qualified CT Anesthesiologists. Fellows will become facile in the perioperative management of patients undergoing complex procedures such as off pump CABG, aortic reconstruction, Mitral, Aortic and Tricuspid valve work, Ventricular Assist Devises, heart transplants, congenital heart surgery, pneumonectomies and minimally invasive thoracic surgery. Our perioperative TEE service performs approximately 800 exams per year, providing ample opportunities to become an expert at image acquisition and interpretation. The fellowship is structured such that you will obtain superb clinical training and is flexible enough for you to pursue research interests.

Operating Room Equipment Available: The new MUSC Heart and Vascular Building (Ashley River Towers) houses all new operating rooms and intensive care units dedicated to the care of the cardiac and thoracic patients. All CT operating rooms are equipped with transesophageal echocardiography, epiaortic ultrasound, continuous cardiac output, continuous mixed venous oximetry, cerberal oxymetry, electronic anesthesia records, and new Omeda anesthesia machines.
