STRATEGIC PLAN GOAL: MEMBER ENGAGEMENT
SCA membership will be desirable to all anesthesiologists practicing cardiovascular and thoracic anesthesiology and critical care medicine.
MISSION
The mission is to provide an organization to facilitate communication among cardiothoracic anesthesia fellowship program directors about various issues of mutual interest.
PURPOSE
The primary purpose is to provide an organization to facilitate communication among cardiothoracic anesthesia fellowship program directors about various issues of mutual interest. Specific duties include: to facilitate communication between fellowship program directors and outside organizations, e.g., the Residency Review Committee of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, the Society of Academic Anesthesia Associations (Anesthesia Association of Subspecialty Program Directors), the various Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists committees (education, scientific program, membership, etc.); to facilitate participation by cardiothoracic anesthesiology fellows in SCA activities such as the Annual Meeting and other educational meetings as well as in SCA committees; to promote SCA membership among cardiothoracic anesthesiology fellows that will continue after completion of fellowship; to facilitate mutual understanding among programs about fellowship recruitment; to assist programs in developing educational curricula for residents and fellows; to develop and appoint subcommittees and subcommittee chairs as needed to carry out the various activities of the Council; to advise the SCA on how to promote fellow membership and maintain future SCA membership among fellow trainees by providing services and programs that meet the needs of fellows and recent fellow graduates.
PARENT COMMITTEE
The council reports to the Member Engagement Committee.
MEETING
The council meets at least once per year at the SCA Annual Meeting, once during the ASA Annual Meeting, and once at the SAAA Annual Meeting.
COMPOSITION
The council is composed of the Council Executive Committee (Chair and 1-3 additional council members), Parent Committee (Member Engagement) Chair, and Program Directors from all of the Adult Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology (ACTA) sub-specialty fellowships.
TERM
Members remain on the Council for the duration of their employment as a Fellowship Program Director. Selected individuals, as approved by the SCA Board of Directors, with notable background in ACTA Anesthesia education who are not active fellowship Program Directors may also be council members, including Assistant Program Directors or other department leadership.
