Our program has an established robust didactic curriculum, which is revised and updated yearly. Education time (~4-5 hrs per week) is protected, and attendance is facilitated. DEPARTMENTAL CONFERENCES Didactic lectures: • Multidisciplinary lectures covering topic relevant to the practice of ACTA; includes the use of simulation and case-discussions • Weekly • Given by faculty from ACTA division, from other divisions and other departments (cardiology, surgery) Journal Club: • Review of current topics relevant to ACTA practice with a focus on evaluation of study design and results interpretation • Bi-monthly • Led by fellows, moderated by ACTA faculty TEE didactics: • Comprehensive curriculum that prepares fellows for proficiency in perioperative acquisition and interpretation of TEE, and prepares them for certification examination in advanced perioperative TEE • Weekly • Led by Drs. Shanewise and Wu TEE case presentations • Case presentations, review and discussion of interesting TEE studies • Weekly • Led by fellows, moderated by ACTA faculty Mortality & Morbidity conferences • Combined cardiothoracic surgery, anesthesiology and CCM review of M&M • Once a month Porcine Heart Dissection Others • Grand rounds, research conferences, Critical Care Grand Rounds EXTRAMURAL CONFERENCES Our fellows are given the time and the financial support needed to participate and/or attendance of regional and national conferences. |
