| Comments: | The Adult Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology Fellowship at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell provides high-volume, comprehensive subspecialty training across two premier tertiary academic medical centers. Fellows spend the majority of the fellowship year at North Shore University Hospital (NSUH) for their core adult cardiac surgical and critical care rotations, gaining extensive hands-on experience in complex multi-valve operations, thoracic aortic reconstructions, heart and lung transplantation, and temporary/durable mechanical circulatory support (ECMO, Impella, VADs). Fellows rotate at Long Island Jewish Medical Center (LIJMC) for their dedicated non-cardiac thoracic anesthesiology experience, managing complex open and robotic-assisted pulmonary and esophageal procedures. Our educational curriculum prioritizes clinical and academic excellence, featuring a longitudinal perioperative transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) experience structured to surpass NBE Advanced PTEeXAM certification requirements. In addition to robust clinical operative blocks, fellows rotate through a closed, high-acuity Cardiothoracic ICU, and have elective opportunities including interventional/structural echocardiography, pediatric cardiac anesthesiology, and perfusion. Fellows are supported by non-clinical academic time, CME travel funding, and faculty mentorship to lead research and institutional quality improvement initiatives. Our faculty are deeply committed to one-on-one mentorship, progressive clinical autonomy, and cultivating future academic and clinical leaders in cardiothoracic anesthesiology. |
