Submissions Are Now Open
The SCA-Registry Based Projects (SCA-RP) Award Program is now accepting submissions. This program supports SCA members who want to conduct research using registry data, and we encourage you to apply.
A New Name, the Same Mission
You may recognize this program by its former name: the PUF Award Program. The new name — SCA-RP — better reflects SCA’s growing commitment to registry-based research and quality improvement. The purpose remains the same: to fund meaningful work that advances cardiovascular anesthesia care.
Expanding Our Registry Partnerships
We’re also pleased to announce that SCA is now partnering with the Multicenter Perioperative Outcomes Group (MPOG) registry, alongside the STS National Database. MPOG is a national quality improvement collaborative that collects and analyzes detailed anesthesia data from participating institutions. Together, these registries give SCA members more tools to benchmark practice, identify improvement opportunities, and demonstrate the value of cardiovascular anesthesia care.

Letter of Intent Submission
Document Submission Checklist
- Letter of Intent (Max 2 Pages, PDF format): The LOI should detail the proposed title of the project and details of the proposed study, including background, specific aims, abbreviated study design, and target patient population or disease process, along with a description of any translational/mechanistic components, if relevant. The LOI must include a statement that the PI/applicants checked and verified that their proposed work is not similar to a previously completed or presently active approved research proposal and that they have checked and verified that the key variables of interest for their project are collected in the respective registries. The LOI should also describe the roles of the key personnel including PI, co-investigators, and other personnel as well as their backgrounds/connection to the topic area, the unique skills, or resources they and their institutions bring to the project. The investigative team composition must adhere to the requirements of the national registry that they are applying to (see above).
- PI Biosketch (Max 5 pages, PDF format): This document should use the updated NIH Please do not include Co-investigators Biosketches.
- Research Proposal Coversheet: (MPOG based proposals only): Proposals that utilize MPOG data should also include a completed research proposal coversheet according to the format here: Research Cover sheet for MPOG. This cover sheet may be one of the two required pages for the Letter of Intent. The Letter of Intent must also include a statement that the proposal has been reviewed by the local MPOG Principal Investigator.
Award details:
- Total award amount: $60,000 for a total up to 3 grants awarded at $20,000 each.
- Award duration: One time award.
- Letter of Intent (required) deadline: September 24. 2026
- Notification of invitation for full application: November 4, 2026
- Application deadline for invited applicants: December 11, 2026.
- Award recipients announced: January 2027.
